Some cities and their people are truly amazing. The relation between the making of art and the generation of community is a fascinating topic. From the urban perspective to the more intimate experience each person has around this symbiotic relation. The Sense of place of a city goes far beyond the physical boundaries of architecture or the pieces of art (if any) laying around the public space. It is intrinsic to the communal experience of the people inhabiting the space.

From music, pantings, urban art, graffitis, videos, buildings, design or new media... Art is intrinsic to the city. and the urban general experience is explicit on the demonstrations of art on them created.

So is that when you visit a city with a vibrant art scene, you can feel it on your skin, breathe, it acquires a volatile state and so with it, the community is more united. I am not saying that this in the only element creating or feeding communities. it just happen to be simply fascinating.

I admire contemporary artist and/or designer that decide to take that to the next level, involving the community on interactive authentic works of contemporary art.

A very great sample of that is the interactive installation done for the "Contemporary Art Gallery" on Vancouver, CA on 2005. Design by Rethink Communications

"50,000 buttons were displayed, each printed with a single word representing one of a hundred possible responses to contemporary art. The public was free to walk away with as many buttons as they wanted in this interactive promotional installation for the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver.

New Year, New Life...

I am glad to be finally back! :)

Today I am writing from my new house in the Bay Area. I moved from Orlando during the holiday, and am still re-organizing everything in my house and life. One thing I know, a range of new opportunities are open for me right now (I just need to know what and where they are, ha)... it is very exiting and scary I guess... however, yesterday we got our stuff from the moving truck and I have a kitchen with plates, pots, etc again!!!I (important things in life, he, he)

So, this year hopefully will be for us like the Venezuelan song: "Año nuevo, vida nueva, mas alegres los dias seran...." (new year, new life, more joyful days will come) or something like that.

Cheers!!!

grieving

1 min read
my grandma died this morning. I feel so sad, so isolated... I have the strangest sensation that I could just evaporate if I tried(or knew how) , and "fly" from here: in front of a computer and $ 2000 and 1 later day away to her service in Merida, my home city in Venezuela.

How can that be? my body feels soulless... I hope my mind could join my soul where it is... Al least I hope my dear family, (dad, mom, brother and sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles) can realize my soul is actually with them... (or even better saying goodbay to my abuelita querida) Wherever it is, is not with me tonight... I am hurting and empty... grieving

She was the sweetest giving person in the word to me... and to most of us, her family, a strong woman that lived and worked for her children... and the children of her children... all her life. She gave all her life, all the thighs she had...

I don't usually post this things on the web... but wanted to let you know, somehow it feels right.

Well, starting tomorrow, until the end of the year., I am going to be participating on 4 different local art festivals or shows until the end of the year. Of course i will LOVE to see you there, there will be plenty of other things going on:

Up coming shows:

CENTRAL FLORIDA VEG FEST _ OCTOBER,  Saturday, 27th (TOMORROW)

lakemaryheathrowarts.com/
Ok, I am very-very nervous about this one, first large show outside :) my husband and sister (my heroes) will be my supporting crew and Santiago (my son) their toughest challenge... WE are looking forward to it ;)

www.ocfta.com/07_visualarts.ht…
My Dad is going to be here for this one, I am so happy!

GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT SHOW Location: 138 E. 5th Ave. Mount Dora, FL 32757
This is a very nice initiative   organized by the Mount Dora Center for the Arts,  the idea is to offer the people with small or affordable(everything under $ 400)  original pieces.  And the emerging (starving artists) a place to display their work) it will be setup like a warehouse store from Sunday, November 25, 2007 to Friday, January 4, 2008. I will be there volunteering some days, not sure when exactly.

the truth is that, I applied for their big festival on February, but they only accept experienced known artists for this one, so they offered me this other option, which I think is pretty cool too! :)!!! I will not be showing in their festival this year, but it is probably one of the best in the area. www.mountdoracenterforthearts.…

Global Voices from a New Generation of Women
A Project of the International Museum of Womenimaginingourselves.imow.org/pb…

Imagining Ourselves the online exhibit of the International Museum of Women is a platform for young women to create positive change in their lives, in their communities, and in their world.

"if you are a woman between the ages of twenty and forty living anywhere on the globe today, you are part of the most educated, most well-traveled, most professionally empowered, most international generation of women ever to have existed on this planet. It's a story that not many people are telling yet, but is one of the most inspiring stories out there in a world full of violence and insecurity - the story of a generation of women poised to take the reins of global leadership like no other generation on history"

-Paula Goldman (Founder and Director, Imagining Ourselves)

I am very happy to share that my studio www.evolveartstudio.com is a proud sponsor of this great initiative. For now, i am donating 10% of my etsy store profits to generate new memberships, raising awareness about this empowering exhibit. However this alone is not enough (since I am just beginning),  so I will be working on new ways to help.
